My painting is based on some sunflowers I grew from seeds. These Firecracker Sunflowers were the drama queens of the garden. They moved their golden crowns to face the sun in a daily dance. Like actors on a stage, they commanded attention. When I painted them, I was so mesmerized by their shapes and colours that I lost track of time and suddenly, the painting was done. I didn’t want to make the edges to clean or perfect because that would dampen the sense of movement and energy created by the spontaneous shapes and brushstrokes.
