This month the Melange Team Challenge is "Home". I have many of mixed media pieces that explore the idea of houses and homes. I am facinated by the houses people build for themselves and how they personalize them. I feel like a sociologist when I look at peoples homes because they all tell a story.
I picked this home to be in the challenge because I don't think I've put it on my blog before. I looked! This is a house I would love to live in. I looks like it would have interesting windows and lots of nooks and crannies and the trees could possibly be from outer space. I used an old paper bag to draw the house on because I love brown paper and the front garden is made with japanese paper. It's all mounted on canvas and painted with acrylics. Check out the links to the other melange team members! You will be amazed at the talent in this team!!

I am totally in love with this technique which I learned in my printmaking class. It is a water based monoprinting. Our teacher handed out these pieces of lexon. You can see one here. Lexon is a piece of plastic which is thicker than mylar, but thinner than acrylic. You can cut it into any shape you want with scissors. You paint the lexon with a thin coat of dish soap before you start or you can add dish soap to your paint as you go along. I happily painted and colored with watercolor paints and watercolor crayons and before I knew it, I had done 4 little sqauares. Then I shaved flecks of chalk pastel onto various parts with a box cutter. I was just messing around; I felt as if I was six years old again. The teacher took all the little plates home to her printing press and today I got it back. I must say I'm thrilled! It is such an easy technique. If you don't like what is on your plate, you just wipe it off with a paper towel and start again. I also did the orange below. I think I looks more like a pink grapefruit. Now if only I had a press! Has anyone tried doing this with a barren? "Spent" seems to me like a word which has a lot to do with measuring. Whether it's time, or money we always want to quantify it. What is it worth? How much is left? I suppose it's inevitable that we do this. I had fun making this little ACEO and now it's making me think. Funny how you can put a few scraps of paper together and they take on a life of their own!
