My First Mono Print!

I am totally in love with this technique which I learned in my printmaking class.  It is a water based monoprinting.  Our teacher handed out these pieces of lexon.  You can see one here.  Lexon is a piece of plastic which is thicker than mylar, but thinner than acrylic.  You can cut it into any shape you want with scissors.   You paint the lexon with a thin coat of dish soap before you start or you can add dish soap to your paint as you go along.   I happily painted and colored with watercolor paints and watercolor crayons and before I knew it, I had done 4 little sqauares.  Then I shaved flecks of chalk pastel onto various parts with a box cutter.  I was just messing around; I felt as if I was six years old again.  The teacher took all the little plates home to her printing press and today I got it back.  I must say I'm thrilled!  It is such an easy technique.  If you don't like what is on your plate, you just wipe it off with a paper towel and start again.   I also did the orange below.  I think I looks more like a pink grapefruit.

Now if only I had a press!  Has anyone tried doing this with a barren?

Wonderful colors!

Looks like fun. Years a go I took a class where we did monotypes where we painted on plexiglass & then covered that with wet watercolor paper. We rubbed the paper back with a big spoon & it came out great

I love the orange one best. Lovely. You can do lots without a press. Just give it a shot.

Love them! Yes, you can easily do it with the back of a spoon (we use wooden ones). Did she wet the paper to get it to transfer (like ArtSnark mentioned above)? Just curious because I'm assuming the watercolor dried before she ran it through the press.
