I am totally in love with this technique which I learned in my printmaking class. It is a water based monoprinting. Our teacher handed out these pieces of lexon. You can see one here. Lexon is a piece of plastic which is thicker than mylar, but thinner than acrylic. You can cut it into any shape you want with scissors. You paint the lexon with a thin coat of dish soap before you start or you can add dish soap to your paint as you go along. I happily painted and colored with watercolor paints and watercolor crayons and before I knew it, I had done 4 little sqauares. Then I shaved flecks of chalk pastel onto various parts with a box cutter. I was just messing around; I felt as if I was six years old again. The teacher took all the little plates home to her printing press and today I got it back. I must say I'm thrilled! It is such an easy technique. If you don't like what is on your plate, you just wipe it off with a paper towel and start again. I also did the orange below. I think I looks more like a pink grapefruit. Now if only I had a press! Has anyone tried doing this with a barren?
