She wasn't supposed to be tall, but when I read the Illustration Friday word, "Tall", I thought...well... if you don't take the prespective into account she does look monsterously tall. And seeing as she is supposed to wear these clouds, I think she should be able to reach them. The words are a quote from Ellen Thorneycroft Fowler who was a novelist from Wolverhampton in Victorian England. The name Thorneycroft is so marvelous, it's almost as good as the quote!
This is probably the most random illustration I've ever made. It started with a left over scrap of japanese paper which I thought looked like a dress, so I pasted it onto a background I had already started which had clouds. Then I thought I should google cloud quotes and came up with this one. When I saw the Illustration Friday word, I thought it fit with the picture. I like this non-linear way of creating art, it's very different from the linocut printmaking I've been doing.
